October 31st was historically meant for dressing up to scare away spirits of the dead, but as time progress the celebration lost it's meaning. Today people all over the world dress-up for fun and entertainment, but in the midst of this celebration some people fail to realize that the "costumes" they wear could be offending to a culture. Native Americans are most commonly victims to this offense. For many years celebrities, such as Paris Hilton and Chrissy Teigen have been dressing up in Native costumes and sexualizing them. Portraying these costumes as "sexy" could easily be seen as offensive and racist. This is problem is also very significant, because there are many problems impacting Native Americans today, but yet celebrities wearing these "costumes" are not speaking out about them. According to BBC article, What is Standing Rock and why are 1.4m 'checking in' there?, the Dakota Access Pipeline is supposed to be placed in the tribal area of Sioux Native Americans. This pipeline is believed to be contaminating to the Natives' water so protests have erupted in response. Instead of trying to dress-up as Native Americans, many should attempt to support the environmental crisis that is affecting may Sioux Native Americans.
I agree, some celebrities do fail to understand that they are offending a certain group of people, many celebrities end up sexualizing certain dresses.
