Cultural Appropriation: Coldplay's "Hymn for the Weekend"

Coldplay is British rock band that has been around since 1996 and earned a relatively large fan base. Their music videos are known to be creative and inspirational. These music videos have to continuously appeal to the public. However, Coldplay's "Hymn for the Weekend" music video with Beyoncé sparked up controversy on its inaccurate representation Of india and usage of Indian culture as a costume. In the video, Beyoncé is dressed in traditional Desi adornment and is playing a Bollywood actress. Usage of Desi traditions has been used in the past by celebrities such as Selena Gomez and Iggy Azalea.
